This might be a stupid question, I am not sure, but is it possible to just buy an account (for a reduced cost hopeflly) and not buy the box, cd, etc? (download the client from their site?)

i beleive that is possible...but only through the client.

I don't think so, at least not officially. But i'm not a rep of Anet, so I don't know. The only other way of buying it online is eBay, but this is something you should never do for any kind of online account or key.

Not sure where you get the retail key for the download client but that seems like a good place to start!
